Campaign launched to save Team Lotus

© Save Team Lotus

One side of the Lotus naming dispute has been put forward on a new and in-depth webpage called www.saveteamlotus.com. The basic background is that the Lotus Racing F1 team had its naming rights revoked for next season by Group Lotus and, in order to keep racing under the Lotus name, bought the Team Lotus brand off David Hunt, who had owned it since the original team?s last race in 1994. Group Lotus has now taken Lotus Racing to court to try and stop it using the historic name in Formula One next year. The issue has been a source of constant confusion for many fans and the new webpage offers a breakdown of David Hunt?s and Team Lotus? side of the argument.

Britney Spears’ Big 2011: From A Smash Album To A Ring On Her Finger1676352

A decade into her career, the pop megastar reinvented herself this year as the ultimate Femme Fatale and made a big commitment to Jason Trawick.

Maybe Britney Spears‘ lucky number is 30. The singer turned 30 this year, marking the landmark birthday on December 2 with a fan-voted MTV News tournament that crowned the Best Britney Video of All Time. But her 30th year also proved to be an incredibly successful period in her career.

For the first time in a while, she seemed comfortable being the pop megastar that she is. More than a decade into her career, Spears re-emerged as a Femme Fatale, giving fans a fist-pumping album, embarking on a flashy tour and dropping more memorable music videos. Britney Spears fandom was reenergized as the singer came out of her shell, opening up about this phase in her career as well her personal life in several high-profile interviews. So it’s probably not surprising that Spears will cap off the year at #4 on MTV News’ Top Newsmakers of 2011 list, just behind Lil Wayne. “When I was younger, I was busy, busy, and I was always singing and dancing all the time. I was just really creative,” she recalled in the MTV special “I Am the Femme Fatale.” “That’s when my mom realized I’m a really creative person.” She let that creativity shine over the past 12 months. From “Hold It Against Me” to “Till the World Ends” to her Chris Marrs Piliero-directed “I Wanna Go” and “Criminal,” Britney made headlines every time she dropped a music video. But no vid stirred up as much controversy as her “Criminal” clip, which featured real-life boyfriend (now fiancé) Jason Trawick — and his abs. “At the end of the day, Jason killed it,” Piliero told MTV News of Trawick’s cameo. “That was one of those things I was really stoked [about], as much as I went into it like, ‘Wow, he’s not an actor. This is going to be interesting,’ but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I’m a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, ‘I’m gonna make sure that you are awesome,’ and he was.” Between video shoots, Spears hit the road with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Joe Jonas, and DJ Pauly D. Spears fully embraced her sensuality on the Femme Fatale Tour, a spectacular show full of costume changes, elaborate stage setups and stunning mini-films.

And while much of the 2011 VMA buzz was about Beyoncé’s baby bump and Jo Calderone, Spears stole the spotlight by walking away with a Moonman for Best Pop Video and the prized Video Vanguard Award. She also had tongues wagging after an onstage kiss from Jo (a.k.a. Lady Gaga), just before she was honored with an electrifying dance tribute that highlighted some of biggest career moments. “It was really crazy. I had no idea what to expect,” Spears told us backstage at the VMAs. “The kids were amazing and so entertaining, and it was a really fun night. It was really cool. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s really sweet!’ ” As 2011 came to a close, Spears wrapped up her tour, and MTV News threw her a birthday bash in the form of the “30 Videos for 30 Years” tournament. The competition was heated but in the end, Spears’ iconic “I’m a Slave 4 U” took home the prize. And just when it seemed things couldn’t get any better, Britney confirmed she was engaged to Trawick after dating for two years. She showed off her Neil Lane ring during a celebratory weekend in Las Vegas. MTV continues our Best of 2011 coverage by looking back at the biggest pop-culture stories of the year. Where Will Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga Party On New Year’s?1676540

From New York to L.A., celebs have plans to ring in 2012 with a bang.

New Year’s Eve is the last chance you’ll have to party in 2011. And as the days to plan out your big night begin to dwindle, MTV News is rounding up some of the biggest parties on the planet. From Los Angeles to New York, there’s something for everyone. The Kardashians will be hosting several parties all over Las Vegas. Kim will be at Tao (for a fee of reportedly $600,000), Kourtney, along with the Madden Brothers, will party it up at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris while Rob has it on lock at Tryst.

Other big Sin City parties include Chris Brown’s shindig at Pure, Mary J. Blige’s bash at RPM Nightclub, Bruno Mars at The Bank and B.o.B at LAX (the club, not the airport). Fergie and will.i.am will both be in Vegas to ring in 2012. The Black Eyed Peas’ leading lady will be at 1OAK, while will.i.am be DJing at Surrender. Professional party rockers LMFAO will be shufflin’ all night long at Haze Nightclub at Aria. Newly engaged John Legend will perform at the Palms with T-Pain and Paul Oakenfold. As celeb-filled as it may seem, not all the stars will be in Vegas. In Los Angeles, Mario Lopez is hosting a party at Hollywood & Highland that boasts performances by Lupe Fiasco and Cobra Starship. And in Chicago, “American Idol” alum Lee DeWyze will be at the Hard Rock Hotel with DJ Chris Kennedy (Chris Masterson) spinning tunes. Kanye West’s plans have yet to be determined, but he recently tweeted he’s looking for a place to DJ right into 2012. We’re sure someone will find a place for him at their party.

New York is the home of all things New Year’s. Lady Gaga has been booked to perform on two NYE specials: the 40th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” and the Japanese program “Kohaku Uta Gassen.” For those who want to snuggle up on their couch and avoid all the partying madness, MTV has your back. This year Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole, Jason Derulo and more will be on hand for “NYE in NYC 2012,” which will air live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday (December 31) from Times Square, where the famous ball drops on, you guessed it, MTV. What are your New Year’s Eve plans? Let us know in the comments!

McLaren launched a rather radical MP4-26 during their scheduled Vodafone media event on 4th February at Potsdamer Platz located in Berlin, Germany shortly after the first test session of the season in Valencia.

The nose of the McLaren MP4-26 features the same high design as many of the other cars this season, while its sidepods are extremely sculpted and L-shaped. In addition, the airbox tweaks have been intensively reworked, while the car’s exhaust system presents a classic rear-side design.

Technical specifications

McLaren MP4-26 – L-shaped sidepods ( The Official F1)
“There is no doubting the new MP4-26 is very different from all the other 2011 cars. Technical director Paddy Lowe has exploited to the extreme the idea of higher outer sidepods, last seen on the likes of Benetton’s B195 from 1995 and Ferrari’s F310 from 1996.”

McLaren MP4-26 ? ?L? shaped sidepods (Scarbsf1′s Blog)
“It remains to be seen if this set up works better than conventional undercut sidepods for creating rear downforce. Others team would be able to recreate the McLaren ?L? shaped sidepod inlets. Although it would require a significant change the radiators and bodywork, making it a major package upgrade and not a quick test.”

Beyonce Fans Weigh In On Baby’s Anticipated Arrival1676552

From the birth date to the sex of the baby, fans share their thoughts with MTV News.
By John Mitchell

Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images

It’s almost here, and no, we’re not talking about New Year’s. Here at MTV News we’re waiting patiently for an even bigger event: the birth of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s baby. And depending on whom you ask, Queen Bey’s little prince or princess might be here sooner than any of us thought. According to various media reports, Beyoncé may even be in labor right now.

Rumors that the 4 songstress, who was one of MTV’s top Newsmakers of 2011, was set to give birth Wednesday (December 28) first surfaced on Media Takeout, with two nurses at New York’s Saint Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital allegedly telling the celebrity gossip site that they were informed last night that a “celebrity VIP” who had reserved half of the hospital’s luxury labor and delivery floor would be arriving to give birth Wednesday. There has been no confirmation that the rumored VIP is indeed Beyoncé, and representatives for the star did not immediately respond when asked for comment. Fans of the “Countdown” singer and her hip-hop mogul husband are starting to get very excited about baby Jayoncé. When MTV News took to the streets of New York to ask Bey’s fans their thoughts on when they expect the baby to make its debut and whether it will be a boy or a girl, they had plenty to say. Most of Bey’s fans told us they expected the baby to be born in January, with one perhaps astute fan zeroing in on New Year’s Day, saying, “I think Beyoncé′s baby will be born sometime in January, maybe on the first.” We found only one dissenter on the chilly streets of NYC, and he seemed to have the best knowledge of past public statements from the couple, including an early-September interview with Beyoncé that announced that the baby was actually due in February. “I trust Jay Z, I think he’s a good guy,” the fan said. “Him and Beyoncé are a good couple, so they wouldn’t lie to the public. So Beyoncé′s baby is going to be born in February.” And nearly all of the fans we surveyed believe the power couple is expecting a baby girl. Perhaps they caught wind of de facto auntie Kelly Rowland’s slip of the lip on a London red carpet in early November, where the former Destiny’s Child singer said, “I have no idea what I’m going to buy Beyoncé at the baby shower because Jay is going to buy that little girl every single thing possible. She won’t be spoiled, but she will be very well looked-after.” One fan was particularly excited for a baby girl because she hoped the babe picked up Beyoncé′s good genes. “Hopefully a girl,” she told MTV News. “Probably because I’m a fan of Beyoncé′s looks.” One thing all could agree on was that Jay and Bey’s bundle of joy would jump right to the top of the celebrity baby power list. “A power baby, obviously,” one fan said, while another added, “It’s gonna be a pretty cool baby, that’s for sure. Probably gonna run New York City by the time he’s 13 or 14.” Do you think Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s baby will be a boy or a girl? Let us know in the comments!

Vettel set for titles aplenty

© Daily Telegraph

Tom Cary says in his column in the Daily Telegraph that the man dubbed ?Baby Schumi? has plenty of time to match or even surpass his compatriot?s record haul of seven world titles after he cinched his first in the Abu Dhabi night.

?Here, after all, is a young man, already dubbed ?Baby Schumi? by Germany?s tabloid press, winning the first of what will presumably be multiple world championships, and all at the tender age of 23. Plenty of time yet to match Schumacher’s incredible haul of seven world titles. And yet, their phenomenal ability to drive racing cars apart, there is little similarity between the two men. ?There are still lingering doubts over his racing ability but with such blistering qualifying pace he is nearly always leading from the front anyway. Vettel is set for multiple world championships. Just don?t call him Baby Schumi.?
The Guardian?s Paul Weaver says it was difficult to begrudge Vettel his moment of glory after he won the first of what will be many world titles. He also looks back at some of the season?s highlights.
?An amazing Formula One season produced its final twist here on Sunday when Sebastian Vettel, who had never led the title race, won his first world championship. It is difficult to begrudge him his glory, for he had more poles (10) than any other driver and shared the most wins (five) with Fernando Alonso. There will be red faces as well as red cars and overalls at Ferrari, though, for deciding to bring their man in when they did, only to see him re-emerge into heavy traffic. ?Among the highlights, and every race felt like a highlight after the bore-start in Bahrain, there was that wonderful beginning to his McLaren career by Jenson Button, who won two of his first four races, even though he couldn’t keep up the pace, especially in qualifying. ?Hamilton once again drove his heart out, and outperformed a car that looked a little too ordinary at times. He was superb in Montreal. Then there was Webber, the Anglophile Aussie who was the favourite among most neutrals to win the title. There was that spectacular crash when he ran into the back of Heikki Kovalainen and the most famous of his four wins, at Silverstone, when he said to his team at the end of the race: ‘Not bad for a No2 driver.’ ?But in the end there was only one German who mattered. It was the remarkable Vettel. This will be the first of a clutch of championships for him.?
The Independent?s David Tremayne focuses on the plight of the other title contenders, writing it is easier to feel more sorry for one than the other.
?It was impossible not to feel for both Webber and Alonso. Yet while a frustrated Alonso gestured at Petrov after the race, the Australian, predictably, refused to complain about his pitstop timing. ?A world championship seemed an inevitable part of Sebastian Vettel’s future, but it came a little sooner than most expected, after his recent tribulations. You wouldn’t bet against several more, and if that record-breaking streak continues, perhaps even Schumacher’s achievements will be overshadowed.?
And the Mirror?s Byron Young elaborates further on the petulant behaviour of Fernando Alonso on his slowing down lap after his title dreams ended behind the Renault of Vitaly Petrov.
?Fernando Alonso was hurled into more controversy last night for a wild gesture at the former Lada racer who cost him the title. But the Spaniard brushed off accusations he gave Russian Vitaly Petrov the finger for ruining his title hopes by blocking him for 40 laps as they duelled over sixth place. “The Ferrari ace was caught on television cruising alongside the Renault driver on the slowing down lap and gesticulating from the cockpit. Petrov was unrepentant: “What was I supposed to do? Just get out of his way, pull to the side? I don’t think that is how we race. It was important for the team for me to get points.”

Hispania unveiled their 2011-spec single-seater on 8th February, even though the whole thing happened via an online photo shoot in which the images of the new HRT F111 were computer-generated.

Team principal Colin Kolles said: ?The F111 represents a significant step forward for Hispania Racing. We have made a big improvement for starting our second season in Formula 1 and what you see in our new car confirms Hispania Racing’s commitment to F1.?

HRT aim to run the car for the first time in the pre-season test at Bahrain which begins on March 3rd.

The team employed Hollywood concept vehicle designer Daniel Simon – known for his work on the 2011 film Tron: Legacy – to design the car’s livery. He said, ?I miss fearless visual statements and large beautiful numbers on today?s racing cars.

?Playing with the restrictions of what you can do to a complex F1 body is fun. There are many don?ts, but I found a way to lay courageous racing essence on the car.?

The team confirmed it will have an adjustable rear wing. However it will not have a Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

PETA’s youth division, peta2, is giving props to celebs like Justin Bieber, Ke$ha and “Glee” star Lea Michele at this year’s Libby Awards for their efforts in support of animal rights. The Biebs, who appeared in a campaign for the organization at the top of the year using Bieber-fied catch-phrases like “My world includes passion for animals, yours should too” and “Animals can make u smile. Adopt from your local shelter,” is taking on fellow animal-loving pop star Ke$ha and rappers k-os and Waka Flocka Flame in the Most Animal-Friendly Pop/Hip-Hop Artist category. Ke$ha appeared in an ad campaigning against the slaughter of Canadian seals. Michele, who speaks out against the mistreatment of carriage horses in New York City, faces off against “Jackass” star Steve-O, Cobra Starship’s leading man and peta2′s Sexiest Vegetarian Gabe Saporta, and “Victorious” star Daniella Monet in the Top Animal-Friendly Celebrity category. The Ready Set, Tokio Hotel, Hellogoodbye and the Swellers are all up for Most Animal-Friendly Band. Ke$ha and Tokio are also up for Best peta2 ad along with Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness and Yelle. The Libby (as in “Liberation”) Awards will be decided on January 17 by fan votes as well as peta2. Voting ends December 23. “Our nominees have all worked hard to shine their spotlights on a variety of important animal issues,” peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg said about the nominees, which honors animal-friendly people and products. “As our accomplished stars demonstrate, compassion isn’t just a virtue — it’s also a road to success.”

F1 2011 : Technical Regulations

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_f2dCclIT9q8/S1sLQ9M_a0I/AAAAAAAAEP8/F3yLGRrnyxs/s400/2010+FIA+Formula+One+regulations.jpg

The FIA’s publication of the details of the 2011 technical regulations points out to the effective ban of double diffusers, F-ducts and slotted rear wings. Newly introduced are the adjustable rear wings, tyres and mandated weight distribution.

Link

F1 2011: Tyres, adjustable rear wings, 640 kg and…

Craig Scarborough of scarbsf1 gives us the detailed explanation of the F1 2011 Technical regulations with amazing illustrations.

Ban on connected shark fins

Another route to banning F-ducts, as well as a move to limit the ever expanding rear fin, the rule prevents any bodywork reaching the rear wing.

?3.9.1 No bodywork situated between 50mm and 330mm forward of the rear wheel centre line may be more than 730mm above the reference plane.?

Ban on slots in the rear wing

As with the beam wing, the upper rear wing is prevented from having slots extending beyond the central 15cm. This prevent F-ducts or other blown slots, the latter which have been exploited for several years.

?3.10.2 Other than the bodywork defined in Article 3.10.9, any bodywork behind a point lying 50mm forward of the rear wheel centre line which is more than 730mm above the reference plane, and less than 355mm from the car centre line, must lie in an area when viewed from the side of the car that is situated between the rear wheel centre line and a point 350mm behind it.
With the exception of minimal parts solely associated with adjustment of the section in accordance with Article 3.18 :

  • when viewed from the side of the car, no longitudinal cross section may have more than two sections in this area, each of which must be closed.
  • no part of these longitudinal cross sections in contact with the external air stream may have a local concave radius of curvature smaller than 100mm.

Once the rearmost and uppermost section is defined, ?gurney? type trim tabs may be fitted to the trailing edge. When measured in any longitudinal cross section no dimension of any such trim tab may exceed 20mm.
The chord of the rearmost and uppermost closed section must always be smaller than the chord of the lowermost section at the same lateral station.?

Clarification of the starter motor hole

After some teams were exploiting oversized starter motor holes in the diffuser to create a slotted effect, the FIA clamped down with a clarification. This has now been written into the rule book.

?3.12.7 No bodywork which is visible from beneath the car and which lies between the rear wheel centre line and a point 350mm rearward of it may be more than 125mm above the reference plane. With the exception of the aperture described below, any intersection of the surfaces in this area with a lateral or longitudinal vertical plane should form one continuous line which is visible from beneath the car.
An aperture for the purpose of allowing access for the device referred to in Article 5.16 is permitted in this surface. However, no such aperture may have an area greater than 3500mm2 when projected onto the surface itself and no point on the aperture may be more than 100mm from any other point on the aperture.?

Ban on Double Diffusers (DDD) and Open Exhaust Blown Diffusers (EBD)

Due to a previous weakness in the rules defining the underfloor, teams were able to exploit this to create the double diffuser. Double diffusers were only possible as an opening could be created in the gap been the reference plane, step plane and the diffuser. Now the rules close this avenue off.

Additionally this opening allowed teams to open up the front of the diffuser to blow the exhaust through for an even greater blown diffuser effect. This rule also prevents this opening in all but the outer 50mm of the split between the diffuser and the floor.
One additional clarification is that the suspension must not form any of the measured point for the under floor. Previously the minimum height was exploited by some teams placing wishbones or Toe-Control arms across the top an opening in the diffuser.

?3.12.9 In an area lying 450mm or less from the car centre line, and from 450mm forward of the rear face of the cockpit entry template to 350mm rearward of the rear wheel centre line, any intersection of any bodywork visible from beneath the car with a lateral or longitudinal vertical plane should form one continuous line which is visible from beneath the car. When assessing the compliance of bodywork surfaces in this area the aperture referred to in Article 3.12.7 need not be considered.

3.12.10 In an area lying 650mm or less from the car centre line, and from 450mm forward of the rear face of the cockpit entry template to 350mm forward of the rear wheel centre line, any intersection of any bodywork visible from beneath the car with a lateral or longitudinal vertical plane should form one continuous line which is visible from beneath the car.

3.12.11 Compliance with Article 3.12 must be demonstrated with the panels referred to in Articles 15.4.7 and 15.4.8 and all unsprung parts of the car removed.?

Driver operated F-duct

Even though the loop holes in the rear wing regulations have been closed, this additional new regulation prevents the driver influencing aerodynamics. So that other driver controlled F-duct type devices cannot be exploited other areas, such as: front wings, sidepods or diffuser.

?3.15 With the exception of the parts necessary for the adjustment described in Article 3.18, any car system, device or procedure which uses, or is suspected of using, driver movement as a means of altering the aerodynamic characteristics of the car is prohibited.?

Driver adjustable rear wing

The driver adjustable front wing is now deleted from the rules and instead the rear wing is now driver adjustable. This is because the expected benefit of greater front wing angle never provided the driver with more grip when following another car. The front flap adjustment was much more a solution to tune the cars handling in between pitstops. The TWG found that the loss of drag from the rear wing was a more effective solution to allow the following to overtake. Now the rear wing flap can pivot near its rear most point and open the slot gap from 10-15mm to up to 50mm. Opening this gap unloads the flap and reduced both downforce and drag.

This being controlled by the timing gap to the car ahead and managed by the FIA. So there?s two ways the driver can use the system. Firstly in free practice and qualifying the rear wing is solely at the control of the driver. They can adjust the wing at any point on the track and any number of times per lap. So for the ideal lap time, as soon as the car is no longer downforce dependant (straights and fast curves) the driver can operate the wing, just as they did with the F-duct. Although a small complication to the driving process, at least their hands remain on the wheel and not on a duct to the side of the cockpit.

Then in the race the wing cannot be adjusted for two laps, then race control will send signals to the driver via the steering wheel, such that when they?re 1s or less behind another car at a designated point on the circuit, the rear wing can be trimmed out. The wing returns to the original setting as soon as the brakes are touched.

?Furthermore, the distance between adjacent sections at any longitudinal plane must lie between 10mm and 15mm at their closest position, except, in accordance with Article 3.18, when this distance must lie between 10mm and 50mm.?

3.18.1 The incidence of the rearmost and uppermost closed section described in Article 3.10.2 may be varied whilst the car is in motion provided :
- It comprises only one component that must be symmetrically arranged about the car centre line with a minimum width of 708mm.
- With the exception of minimal parts solely associated with adjustment of the section, no parts of the section in contact with the external airstream may be located any more than 355mm from of the car centre line.
- With the exception of any minimal parts solely associated with adjustment of the rearmost and uppermost section, two closed sections are used in the area described in Article 3.10.2.
- Any such variation of incidence maintains compliance with all of the bodywork regulations.
- When viewed from the side of the car at any longitudinal vertical cross section, the physical point of rotation of the rearmost and uppermost closed section must be fixed and located no more than 20mm below the upper extremity and no more than 20mm forward of the rear extremity of the area described in Article 3.10.2 at all times.
- The design is such that failure of the system will result in the uppermost closed section returning to the normal high incidence position.
- Any alteration of the incidence of the uppermost closed section may only be commanded by direct driver input and controlled using the control electronics specified in Article 8.2.
3.18.2 The adjustable bodywork may be activated by the driver at any time prior to the start of the race and, for the sole purpose of improving overtaking opportunities during the race, after the driver has completed a minimum of two laps after the race start or following a safety car period.
The driver may only activate the adjustable bodywork in the race when he has been notified via the control electronics (see Article 8.2) that it is enabled. It will only be enabled if the driver is less than one second behind another at any of the pre-determined positions around each circuit. The system will be disabled by the control electronics the first time the driver uses the brakes after he has activated the system.
The FIA may, after consulting all competitors, adjust the above time proximity in order to ensure the stated purpose of the adjustable bodywork is met.?

Mandated weight distribution

Along with the supply of Pirelli control tyres they will be matched to a mandatory weight distribution. Now the cars minimum weight is 640Kg, the specified minimum axle weights, equate to a weight distribution ranging between 45.5-46.7% on the front axle. This is a few percent behind the typical 2010 loadings.

?4.2 Weight distribution :
For 2011 only, the weight applied on the front and rear wheels must not be less than 291kg and 342kg respectively at all times during the qualifying practice session.
If, when required for checking, a car is not already fitted with dry-weather tyres, it will be weighed on a set of dry-weather tyres selected by the FIA technical delegate.?

Double wheel tethers

For safety a doubling of the wheel tethers has been regulated. Each tether needs to pass through a different suspension member and have its own mounting points on the upright and the chassis. There?s not expected to be any performance impact with this. But the tethers are somewhat heavier, so they and the side intrusion panel are part of the reason for the greater minimum weight limit.

?10.3.6 In order to help prevent a wheel becoming separated in the event of all suspension members connecting it to the car failing provision must be made to accommodate flexible tethers, each with a cross sectional area greater than 110mm². The sole purpose of the tethers is to prevent a wheel becoming separated from the car, they should perform no other function.
The tethers and their attachments must also be designed in order to help prevent a wheel making contact with the driver?s head during an accident.
Each wheel must be fitted with two tethers each of which exceed the requirements of 3.1.1 of Test Procedure 03/07.
Each tether must have its own separate attachments at both ends which :
- are able to withstand a tensile force of 70kN in any direction within a cone of 45° (included angle) measured from the load line of the relevant suspension member ;
- on the survival cell or gearbox are separated by at least 100mm measured between the centres of the two attachment points ;
- on each wheel/upright assembly are located on opposite sides of the vertical and horizontal wheel centre lines and are separated by at least 100mm measured between the centres of the two attachment points ;
- are able to accommodate tether end fittings with a minimum inside diameter of 15mm.
Furthermore, no suspension member may contain more than one tether.
Each tether must exceed 450mm in length and must utilise end fittings which result in a tether bend radius greater than 7.5mm.?

No more shaped wheel spokes

After the static front wheel fairings that abounded in 2009, were banned and the wheel design homologated, there must have been some surprise that Ferrari managed to create an aerodynamic wheel shape in 2010. This is partly limited now by the restriction on surface area for spokes and shaping. The limited only allows 13% of the wheel centre to be spoked, meaning that a ten spoke wheel has to have spokes just 16mm wide.

?12.4.6 When viewed perpendicular to the plane formed by the outer face of the wheel and between the diameters of 120mm and 270mm the wheel may have an area of no greater than 24,000mm2.?

Clarification of mirror positions

Again when the FIA clarify a rule or make a change for safety reasons, we don?t get to see the detail of this change until its put into the regulations. The removal of outboard mirrors was brought in early last year and now the mirrors can effectively be no more than 27.5cm from the cockpit opening

?14.3.3 All parts of the rear view mirrors, including their housings and mountings, must be situated between 250mm and 500mm from the car centre line and between 550mm and 750mm from the rear edge of the cockpit entry template.?

Ban on blade roll structures

Mercedes surprised many with their blade-like roll structure, reducing the obstruction to the rear wing and allowing for a much shorter inlet tract for the engine, the solution was likely to be copied. A minimum cross section forced teams to have a wider section above the drivers head, negating the fundamental benefit of the solution

?15.2.4 The principal roll structure must have a minimum enclosed structural cross section of 10000mm², in vertical projection, across a horizontal plane 50mm below its highest point. The area thus established must not exceed 200mm in length or width and may not be less than 10000mm2 below this point.?

Dash roll structure point maximum height

With the cockpit opening fixed at 550mm, teams have often raised the front of the chassis around the dash bulkhead to create a raised nose. In the first of several limits for both 2011 and 2013, with even more stringent plans for 2013, the height of the front of the chassis is now being controlled. The limit for this point is now 670mm, still some 120mm above the cockpit opening.

?15.2.3 The highest point of the second structure may not be more than 670mm above the reference plane and must pass a static load test details of which may be found in Article 17.3.?

Limit on front chassis height

As already explained teams raise the position of the front (AA) and dash (BB) bulkheads to create space under the nose for airflow to pass in between the front wheels and reach the rear of the car. The trend for ?V? sections noses, introduced on the Red Bull RB5 in 2009, makes the front of the chassis even higher, often being visible above the height of the front tyres (~660mm). Now both these bulkheads need to be at 625mm, some 75mm above the cockpit opening.

?15.4.4 The maximum height of the survival cell between the lines A-A and B-B is 625mm above the reference plane.?

Limit on shaped Rear Impact Structures

Since the 2009 aero rules, teams have been shaping the rear impact structures into ever more curved shapes to lift it clear of the diffuser and pass it underneath the beam wing. The tail of this structure must be centred at 300mm high, to prevent extreme banana shaped structures, this rule forces the structure to vary by no more 275mm.

?Furthermore, when viewed from the side, the lowest and highest points of the impact absorbing structure between its rear face and 50mm aft of the rear wheel centre line may not be separated vertically by more than 275 mm.?

It’s a merry Christmas for all of Lady Gaga‘s Little Monsters. Mother Monster herself played Santa to all her fans when she presented them with an unreleased song at midnight on Christmas Day.

“Been racking my brain on what to get Little Monsters for Christmas!! I finally figured it out!!” Gaga tweeted on December 22. “On Christmas Day I will leak to you an unreleased Song off Born This Way! It was recorded live, in one take, on the tour bus. Uncensored.” “Stuck on F***in You,” which was recorded on the road in Minnesota during her Monster Ball tour, captures the feeling of a late-night jam session, where Gaga’s voice soars over just a guitar and drum machine. It’s a stripped down, bluesy joint that showcases her humor and flair for improvisation. “We were all wasted on the bus making records,” Gaga tweeted Saturday (December 24) night, “It’s such a timecapsule of the spirit of our creativity. I wrote, sang and freestyled the last minute + half of the song.” Gaga is spending at least part of her holidays abroad. “Well, I’ll be in Japan right up until Christmas Day,” Gaga told MTV News earlier this month. “So I’ll be eating with all my Japanese Little Monsters. I like shabu shabu [a form of Japanese hot pot].” Lady Gaga, who was MTV News’ Top Newsmaker of 2011, will be ringing in the new year in her hometown of New York. The “Marry the Night” singer, along with Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and Florence and the Machine, will watch the ball drop at the 40th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” The event will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest, with appearances by Fergie and Jenny McCarthy.

Mercedes MGP W02 Launch pictures ( 1st of February)

Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg revealed their 2011 challenger, the Mercedes MGP W02 on Tuesday 1st February 2011, shortly before the first test session of the year began in Valencia.

The car?s livery is an evolution from its predecessor with a striking high-gloss airbrush effect highlighting the shape of the car. The interaction between the Silver Arrows heritage and the green shading representing the team?s title partner PETRONAS evokes memories of the first Silver Arrow car of 1934 with a modern touch added by 3D partner logos.

The car hasn?t only had an attractive re-spray, it is more of a revolutionary car which has little in common with its predecessor, the Mercedes W01.

Mercedes GP had switched focus on the development of their new car ever since midway last season, when team boss Ross Brawn realized the W01 challenger was not going to make any championship statements in 2010.

?The new Silver Arrow for the 2011 season has little in common with its immediate predecessor. Our chassis engineers have taken a fairly ruthless approach and were determined to shave off every superfluous gram and millimetre. What emerged from this process is a compact and exquisitely shaped vehicle that introduces a host of sophisticated solutions and truly reflects the enormous dedication of its constructors.?

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her ‘Crazy’ Led Zeppelin Covers1633563

‘I’ve listened to their music since I was a child,’ says the R&B diva, who recorded ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love.’
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll

Photo: MTV News

You wouldn’t peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin. In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin’s classic “Stairway to Heaven,” working with Travis Barker, “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.

But after she had recorded “Stairway,” Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous “Whole Lotta Love” — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you’d probably imagine. “I did Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ — it’s crazy,” she said. “I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I’m not going to say I’ve been to their concerts, but I’ve listened to their music since I was a child, and it’s always moved me, especially ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ is just fun.” Blige also said she recorded another new song — a “club record” called “I Can’t Wait” — for the re-release. And while it’s only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon. “I want y’all to hear it,” she laughed.

Demi Moore Joins ‘Lovelace’ Biopic

Actress will play feminist icon Gloria Steinem in flick about adult film star Linda Lovelace.

“Lovelace” has found its Gloria Steinem. Demi Moore will play the feminist icon, who covered the release of the adult film “Deep Throat” and profiled its star, Linda Lovelace, in Ms. magazine back in the 1970s.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, other new additions to the cast include Adam Brody, who will play Lovelace’s “Deep Throat” co-star Harry Reems, and Eric Roberts, who’s onboard as lie detector expert Nat Laurendi.

“Lovelace” is currently shooting in Los Angeles, where Moore, Roberts and Brody join Amanda Seyfried (as Lovelace) and James Franco, who’ll make a cameo as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. The film also stars Peter Sarsgaard as Lovelace’s husband, Chuck Traynor; Bobby Cannavale and Chris Noth as “Deep Throat” investors Butchie Peraino and Anthony Romano; Hank Azaria as writer/director Jerry Damiano; Robert Patrick as Linda’s father, John Boreman; and Sharon Stone as Lovelace’s mother. Juno Temple will play the adult film star’s best friend and Wes Bentley has been cast as her second husband.

“Howl” directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman are helming the project. According to previous reports, the role of Rat Packer Sammy Davis Jr. has yet to be cast.

“It’s going to be really hard and kind of terrifying at the same time,” Seyfried told ABCNews.com about the role in December. “It’s something completely different. I do have some liberties there but I am playing someone that existed in history and had quite an established reputation for something very extreme.”

Seyfried is not the first actress attached to the Linda Lovelace role. Seyfried’s “Mean Girls” co-star and Playboy cover girl Lindsay Lohan was set to star in a separate Lovelace biopic before getting dropped by producers more than a year ago.

Before Seyfried nabbed the role in this latest biopic, Olivia Wilde had also been mentioned as a possible star.

‘Breaking Dawn’ Reveals Make Best ‘Twilight’ Year Yet

‘Twilight Tuesday’ rounds up video of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner talking the wedding, honeymoon and being shirtless.
By Kara Warner

We knew 2011 was going to be a big year in the world of “Twilight” news. The fanbase seemed to keep growing by the hour, as did the excitement surrounding the release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1.” The release of a new “Twilight” film also meant that we’d be seeing a lot of the blockbuster franchise’s superstars as they promoted the film — and, boy, was MTV News lucky with how much time we ended up spending with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the gang this year. As such, this week’s “Twilight Tuesday” is dedicated to the best and brightest of those interviews with our favorite stars.

Our first encounter with a “Twilight” star was our chat with Pattinson at the Golden Globes, during which he provided us with a giggly reaction to the first “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ still of Bella and Edward in bed, as well as his positive reviews of Stewart playing a vampire. “It’s like she wanted to do it the entire time,” he told us. “It’s really funny, it’s like a completely different environment on set when she’s a vampire and when she’s not. I think she’s going to do it really well.”

There were also plenty of teases about the film’s most highly anticipated scenes, including the wedding of Edward and Bella and the honeymoon sex scene. Of seeing Stewart in a wedding dress during the filming of their characters’ nuptials, Pattinson said, “She looked amazing. I really didn’t do much than just stand there.”

Stewart later said of the experience: “It was very, very emotional for me.”

Pattinson added, “You kind of realize what the groom’s position in a wedding is, which, in reality, is basically a prop. You stand there in a suit, and then everyone is looking at the girl.”

One scene in which everyone was most certainly not just looking at the girl is the first sex scene between Edward and Bella on their wedding night. “I think we had some really interesting ideas about [the love scene],” Pattinson said when we caught up with him at the “Water for Elephants” press junket. “It’s kind of interesting, as well, having to do it in the context of PG-13. It makes it more interesting.”

Speaking to all the hype about the big moment, Pattinson said that although there was a lot of pressure to deliver some major fireworks in the scene, he was confident he’d give a convincing performance. “That’s the one time I have felt like the coolest person,” Pattinson admitted with a laugh. “I was like, ‘This is easy!’ I can fulfill people’s sexual fantasy expectations without even thinking, piece of cake. That isn’t acting,” he joked. “The only thing [that was difficult] is the vanity aspect,” Pattinson continued. “Taylor [Lautner] just ruined the whole series for me. As soon as he buffed up, I’m like, ‘Well, I’m throwing in the towel’ on ‘New Moon.’ ”

Speaking of Lautner and his chiseled abs, the heartthrob told us that he had to actively campaign to director Bill Condon and the powers that be to limit his amount of shirtlessness in the film, much to the disappointment of his devoted fan following.

“I got it down to one time, one time in the movie, and it literally lasts for two seconds,” Lautner said proudly of his single shirtless shot. “There was some negotiating for sure. There was more [shirtless scenes] when I read the original script, trust me,” he said. “And I got it down to a very, very small amount, which I was so happy with.”

Other interview highlights included the unexpected, off-the-cuff, informal moments wherein our favorite stars played ball with a few of our more-outlandish requests and questions. Case in point: When we asked Jackson Rathbone to help read off a few of the 2011 MTV Movie Awards nominees in song, which he did in good spirits and with aplomb. Then there was the “Breaking Dawn” version of the always-entertaining “Yes/No Show” with Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner.

And those are just a small collection of our favorites from 2011 alone. Only time will tell what 2012 will bring as we gear up for the “epic” conclusion to the franchise, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” It goes without saying that we can’t wait.

Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.”

Robert Plant And Alison Krauss Win Grammy Album Of The Year1604582

Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.

“I’m bewildered,” Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. “In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it’s a good way to spend a Sunday.” He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night’s show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker’s dozen of time-tested standards.

You’re probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett’s work on the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don’t know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she’s won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history. Really, she’s the key to Sand‘s success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released. And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album’s finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she’s getting bluesy on Little Milton’s “Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson” or entwining with Plant’s husky voice on songs like “Please Read the Letter” and Roly Salley’s winsome “Killing the Blues,” she more than carries her end of the bargain. And perhaps that’s also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It’s a testament to his work that he’s often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project … and it’s certainly justified. To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — “Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)” took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. One expert was surprised not by the album’s success, but by the fact that it’s actually quite a good album. “At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. … Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn’t have to be any good, you know?” New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. “Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards.”

Ke$ha‘s already gotten “Sleazy” with Andre 3000. Now, a few more rappers want to get dirty with the glittery pop singer. XXLmag.com reports that T.I. plans to jump on the track, and Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa will also be joining Andre and Tip on a new version of “Sleazy.” Weezy should be a welcome addition to Ke$ha’s dance tune, as it sounds somewhat like Wayne’s single “A Milli.” And while not much else is known about the remix, T.I. promised that he’s going to go big with his verse. “I haven’t heard anybody but mine. … I’m gonna put my money on mine,” the newly freed rapper, who ended an 11-month prison sentence in September, told the website. The Andre 3000 remix dropped earlier this year and appears on K-Dollar Sign’s album Cannibal. The guys will have a lot of swagger to compete with because when Andre appeared on the first remix, he had this to say: “We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn’t forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he’ll remember/ If not, he’s human, I’m human, you human, we’ll forgive him/ I call her Keisha, she like it because it’s ‘hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I’m good to her.” Tip told XXLmag.com that his appearance on the Ke$ha song is just one of many remixes he’s amped about. He has also worked on remixes for Meek Mill and Rick Ross’s “Ima Boss,” as well as Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne song “N—as in Paris.” “I’m looking for some more records to jump on,” he said. “That’s what I’m doin’ right now. I’m commandeering hit records right now. I’m hijacking hit records. If you got a hit, I’m on it.” Are you looking forward to the new “Sleazy” remix? Tell us in the comments!

On Sunday night, some of the biggest names in the music industry hit up the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and decided that sparkles and sequins make for the perfect additions to any red carpet get-up. Well, it is Sin City after all. Taylor Swift always seems to bring some of that Nashville sparkle to any red carpet. She arrived at the show in a pale-hued, sequined Elie Saab gown. Nicki Minaj showed off her signature sense of style in her baby-blue, body-hugging spandex Mark Fast catsuit. Selena Gomez turned up the style dial in a sexy, cut-out black Dolce & Gabbana gown that she paired with red strappy sandals with sparkly bow detailing. Like Gomez, Ke$ha opted for some cut-out detailing in her sparkly, slate-gray dress with tulle skirt. Rihanna looked white hot in her men’s tailored Max Azria suit, which she kept sexy and feminine by not buttoning her shirt all the way. Fergie went S&M chic in her little black bandage-type dress by Hervé Léger. Nicole Kidman also wore black. She paired a casual braid hairstyle with a long black gown and Keith Urban. British pop cutie Kyle Minogue looked funky in her little black lacey dress. Inside the show, Britney Spears sat in the audience wearing a skimpy black dress of her own, her hair in loose curls, with little-to-no accessories. While some stars kept the color scheme low-key, Keri Hilson decided to stand out in her billowy little yellow dress paired with a turquoise-colored belt. Kelly Rowland showed off some of her best assets in a body-hugging, bright pink bandage dress. The fellas also looked tight on the carpet. Joe Jonas wore all black with white sneakers, Ne-Yo paired his periwinkle suit with a Yankees cap and Justin Bieber wore black tuxedo pants with a gold-lamé tuxedo jacket. Which stars’ styles caught your eye at the Billboard Music Awards? Tell us in the comments.

Team order rule needs a re-think

Jean Todt arives for Wednesday’s hearing © Getty Images

Formula One should look at abolishing the controversial ban on team orders after Ferrari escaped further punishment for their manipulation of the German Grand Prix result. That is the view of the Daily Telegraph?s Tom Cary, who is of the opinion that the team orders rule now needs to be seriously looked at because of its obvious shortcomings.

?Whether you are for or against team orders, if the FIA could not back up its own rules and nail a competitor in a blatant case such as this the rule really does need reviewing. Perhaps Ferrari?s thinly-veiled threat to take the matter to the civil courts if they were punished too harshly scared the governing body, who as much as admitted the flimsiness of its rule.”

Paul Weaver, reporting for the Guardian in Monza, was in favour of the ruling which keeps alive Ferrari?s slim chances in an enthralling championship.

?The World Motor Sport Council was right not to ruin a compelling Formula One season by taking away the 25 points Alonso collected in Germany. That would have put him out of the five-man title race. But the council was widely expected to increase the fine and possibly deduct points from the team, as opposed to the individual. In the end, it could be argued that common sense prevailed. But the decision will dismay those who were upset by the way Ferrari handled the situation as much as anything else.?

The Daily Mail’s Jonathan McEvoy expressed outrage at the FIA tearing up its own rule book by allowing Ferrari to escape unpunished.

“Although the race stewards fined them £65,000 for giving team orders in July, the FIA World Motor Sport Council, to whom the matter was referred, decided not to impose any further punishment. It leaves the sport’s rulers open to derision. It was, after all, their rule they undermined. In a statement, the WMSC said the regulation banning team orders ‘should be reviewed’.”
